Blackbrook Rugby

Chair’s message – May 2020

Dear All,

Firstly, I hope you and your families are well and keeping safe. Behind the scenes at Blackbrook Royals, the committee have continued to meet on line and we are doing our best to continue club business so we will be in a position to resume training and playing as soon as the government says we can do so.
I am taking part in the monthly on line meetings held by the RFL and we are uploading the minutes from these onto the club website so you can all keep up to date with the national picture.
The key message from last week’s meeting was that the Rugby Football League have said clubs cannot resume playing or training as long as social distancing is in place but as the situation changes I will keep you up dated.
Below are some updates for your information;
Subscriptions. As from 31st May 2020 families can suspend their monthly subscriptions. Those who wish to continue obviously can do and this will support the club. For those cancelling we will restart subs when games and training is deemed safe to resume.
St Augustine’s School. Our work with the school continues to replace the astro turf pitch with a state of the art 4G facility. St Helens Council are supporting the project and the next stage is our submission to the Rugby League World Cup team.
We have also secured Ruskin Drive for the winter 2020/21 so training will not be affected.
Woman’s team. We have received funding to supply playing kit and equipment for our Under 14 and 16 girl’s teams from the Rugby League World Cup 2021 fund. A full launch will take place when allowed.
Sport England Community Emergency Fund. The Royals have received 2.4k to support future club activity.
O’Neills have created a number of T Shirt designs in Blackbrook colours the proceeds of which will support the NHS. Further details will follow on how to buy.
Finally, a big thanks to all the coaches who have kept the players fitness levels high with their various on line sessions and to all who ordered rugby balls to support the 90 NHS. Huge thanks also to the Open Age section and our own Graham Roberts for all of the work supporting vulnerable people in St Helens with deliveries via the Eccleston Arms.
