Halton Simms Cross 20 Blackbrook 18

Saturday 15 May 2021

Brook succumbed to their second narrow defeat of the Season as Simmies
snatched victory with controversial try on the final play of the game.
The visitors did not start well and struggled to keep possession of the ball in greasy conditions. Brook defended superbly and they needed to as Simmies pounded their try line. The pressure finally told on 20 minutes as the hosts scored following a kick through on the last tackle.
5 minutes they were over again as they broke clear from midfield.
Brook started to build some momentum in the later stages of the half and just before the interval Dan Fairhurst’s neat pass sent Cameron Tunstall-Muil over by the posts with Aaron Hewitt converting.
Brook started the second half much better and deservedly drew level 10 minutes into the half when a long pass from Mike Wynn found Ben Legge who forced his way over in the corner for an unconverted try.
The visitors were dealt a double blow as Mike Wynn and then Jimmy Brown were both forced to leave the field with shoulder injuries during the same set of play. Before Brook could re-organise Simmies scored their third try of the Afternoon to restore the six-point advantage.
A great run from Jack Wilson got Brook back on the attack and the Fairhurst-Tunstall combination worked again with Cammy adding his second try and Aaron Hewitt converting to level matters.
Brook snatched the lead with only minutes remaining when Arron Hewitt landed a 40yard penalty following a high tackle.
Simmies got the ball back from the kick off for one last effort on the Brook try line and a kick to corner was fumbled by the home sides Winger however the Official ruled it had gone backwards as they collected the loose ball to score the winner.
