Brook appeared to in a relegation dog fight back in early June but after winning 13 consecutive games they have won promotion to The NCL Division One. The comeback Kings were at again as Askam raced into an early 14-0 lead and also led 20-8 just into the Second Half however Brook kept their nerve to come back and snatch the victory in an epic encounter.
The homeside drew first blood after 8 minutes when Tom Askew knocked back a kick into the corner for his Centre Tom Butler to score with Sam Dowsett landing a touch line conversion. On 15 minutes Askam doubled their lead when Jamie Butler powered over from close range following a 40/20 kick with Dowsett converting again. Dowsett added a penalty midway through the half as Brook were caught interfering at the play the ball.
Brook kept their belief and kept to the game plan and started to make inroads into the Askam half with Joe Bate Greg Hale and Deon Cross all causing them problems. Scott Davidson crossed the try line but was held up inches away from the ground but with 5 minutes remaining of the half the visitors scored the try they deserved. Greg Hale was the first to Ryan Houghtons neat chip that landed under the posts leaving Aaron Hewitt with the easiest of conversions.
Hewitt landed a penalty early in the second half as Brook crept back to within one converted try however 5 minutes later the visitors failed to deal with a high kick into the corner giving Askam an attacking scrum 10 metres out. With the defence stretched Prop Rory Marshall bulldozed his was over Dowsetts goal gave his side a 20-8 advantage.
Brook stepped it up gear and on 58 minutes Arron Hewitt broke clear he found Jordy Welsby in support who kicked the ball on for Danny Fairhurst to score and with Hewitt landing a difficult conversion they were back to within 6 points. Seven Minutes later it was all square as Scott Davidson latched on a Joe Bate pass to score under the posts.
Askam regained the ball from the kick off and Dowsett edged his side in front with a penalty as Brook were caught ball stealing. Brook were soon back on the attack Callum Welsby produced a great a run towards the posts he was felled again after he tried to make a quick play the ball leaving Aaron Hewitt with a penalty to level the scores again and crucially Dan Sayle was sin binned for a professional foul.
It was end to end stuff though and with 8 minutes remaining Adam Jackson dropped a goal to give his side a slender lead. Back came Brook again they couldn’t find a way through however they forced Askam to drop out from under their own posts and several players eager to defend their line strayed offside at the kick leaving Aaron Hewitt with nervy kick to edge Brook in front for the first time with just 4 minutes remaining.
Brook held out as Askam spilled the ball and claimed a stunning victory.
Joe Bate was selected as The Heatrek Man of the Match with Greg Hale claiming the Players Man of the Match. The celebrations lasted long into the night.
